What to expect with your upcoming procedure

What is a CT Myelogram?

  • A myelogram is an injection of contrast into your spinal canal performed under image guidance by a radiologist
  • After your injection, we will perform a CT scan to visualize your spinal canal

Before Your Procedure

  • We must have an up to date medication list as there are some medications that must be held before and after this procedure
  • Things that will postpone your imaging :
    • If you have a current infection
    • If you have taken antibiotics in the previous 2 weeks
    • If you are taking blood thinners we will need clearance from your prescribing provider. Please ensure you have provided that information to us
    • If you have had a spinal steroid injection in the week prior.

Day of Procedure

  • You will need a driver to and from the procedure
  • There are no eating/drinking restrictions
  • A responsible adult will need to be with you for 24 hours post procedure
  • You will need to lay flat for 24 hours to avoid a spinal headache

Following the Procedure

  • No heavy lifting for 3 days
  • No flying for 32 hours
  • Please hydrate as much as possible
